We are now back open to begin our exciting 2009/2010 Season
We have a number of new additions in the animal collection as well as several new exciting venom projects. Although we were not able to locate all the species we hoped to add during our break we will continue to add interesting enclosures and projects through the coming year.
Look for an enhanced experience on our web site with the addition of the "Friends of the RDC blog" as well as continued improvements to our new online store and several other new menu items in the coming months. We look forward to seeing all of you in the year ahead.
The Reptile Discovery Center will continue to grow with our mission to bring people and reptiles together in a comfortable, safe, educational setting fostering a greater understanding, appreciation and tolerance.
Sincerely,
Carl and Denisse and the RDC staff
The Reptile Discovery Center is a unique facility in which visitors are exposed to a wide variety of Reptile and Amphibian species in a controlled environment allowing close viewing of turtles, tortoises, lizards, alligators and most prominently many of the worlds most dangerous snakes. The Center is a combination nature and educational center, zoological facility, museum, conservation sanctuary and most importantly a working farm. The Center houses hundreds of reptiles of many species and is also home to Medtoxin Venom Laboratories.
Medtoxin is a large scale commercial venom production facility founded and opened in 1994; Medtoxin collects venom from a wide variety of venomous snakes, to ship around the world for use in pharmaceuticals and medical research. The Reptile Discovery Center is one of only a handful of facilities in the United States and around the world where venom extraction can be viewed safely in a comfortable environmentally controlled setting. Only safety glass separates the viewing public from expert handlers and some of the worlds most dangerous snakes. Venom Programs are given Thursday through Sunday at 11:30 A.M. and 3:00 P.M.
